Catalina – Cinnamon

CATALINA COLLECTION

For only one decade in the 20th century, these one-of-a-kind tiles were produced by residents of Avalon; on Catalina Island, 22 miles offshore from Los Angeles. Using a centuries old European technique, a design of wax lines is applied by screen to a pre-glazed body. The wax resist allows for a thick layer of glaze to be applied by hand via rubber syringe, filling the area between the lines and without crossing the design. Upon firing, a high relief, perfectly symmetrical design remains.

Our Catalina Collection pays homage to these original tile arts; but updated and upgraded.  The bisque is porcelain and the wax relief glazes are high fired at over 2500 degrees F, producing an incredibly durable product that can be used indoor and out, on vertical and horizontal surfaces.  The designs lend themselves to Spanish Colonial and Mediterranean styles, using a more modern color palette.
